Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Great Pacific Garbage Patch
The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a commonly overlooked issue surrounding the state of our environment. This patch weighs over 7 million tons of weight, and it is twice the size of Texas. The plastic has entered the body of 9% of fishes near the Garbage Patch. This Garbage Patch is a cumulation of lots of the trash produced by humans. Plastic is not biodegradable. The water acts like a vortex and sucks all the trash into this one spot. It is located in the Pacific Ocean near California and Hawaii. It is up to 9 feet deep. This Garbage Patch is an issue that is not commonly discussed about. It is an issue that needs to be addressed.
I totally agree that the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a serious problem that is not getting enough recognition. To add on, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch also is very disastrous regarding how it affects the beaches and oceans worldwide. When the large circulating ocean currents, gyres, interfere with land masses, a lot of the trash that is carried from the Pacific Garbage Patch gets dumped and trashed onto the beaches and land. This is seen in various islands in Hawaii when large amounts of trash are dumped on the beaches which can create around 10 feet layers of trash that are found under the sand, or it can result in "plastic sand" which is impossible to clean up. This is one of the many reasons why I agree that the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is a very serious problem that should be addressed.
I agree that the Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an overlooked and serious problem. I think we need to do more to not only clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch but also prevent more plastic from joining it. We need to expose more people to the Great Pacific Garbage Patch so they can help prevent it. We also need to push for less plastic consumption and littering, as those are the main causes for plastic entering the ocean.
