Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon footprints in houses

I think that if people used electricity and water in a more conservative way climate change would be less of a problem. Or if more people got solar panels our carbon footprints would be less. Resulting in climate change not being as drastic

I agree with you.  The use of water in showers and bathtubs greatly results in more carbon entering the atmosphere.  Solar power is also becoming cheaper than other ways to create power.  The word just needs to get out of these new advances that not just reduce carbon, but are cheap and good.

I agree with the aforementioned comments. Not only is solar power a more attractive option than gas and electricity because of its low price and environmental friendliness; but Tesla has also started to make enormous capacitors that can store this energy while not used, making the whole technology a lot more efficient. However, it is important to keep in mind that the lithium that must be mined to create these capacitors and the materials that are mined to make the solar panels are not mined in an environmentally friendly way. So be sure to use your electronics as long as possible.
