Student Footprint Results: St. Johns River State College
Hello, my name is Kristy,
I am from the United States of America and attend St. Johns River State College in Florida. I was a bit nervous about looking up my carbon footprint. I know that America tends to have a very wasteful reputation and I thought my efforts at conserving energy would amount to nothing above average. I took my calculation a little differently and decided that I wanted to make my numbers worst case scenario. In other words, I made my average week into a jam-packed week of doing things I usually don’t do. I just wanted to see how the numbers would be effected due to over travel and other wasteful habits that add up.
My results:
Travel: 3832kg Average: 3447kg
My traveling, based on a demanding schedule, was not nearly as bad as I thought. I normal do not travel unless I have to go to my school. Even then I tend carpool (get in a car with several other people). Taking that into account, I sound range under average if I shifted the numbers to a regular schedule.
Home: 5212kg Average: 5065kg
Still not nearly as bad as I thought. Most of the lights in my home are hardly ever used and I try to turn them off every time I leave a room. It is, however, something that needs to be worked on and I will try to lessen it even more.
Food: 2034kg Average: 2996kg
While I’m sure this is still considered a large amount of food intake in other countries. I rank below average for my region even with my skewed results.
Purchases: 379kg Average: 1606kg
Well, I am not in the least surprised here. I try to save as much money as I can and almost never buy myself personal things. This result is far below average in my book and I’m pleased with that.
Wow, your average is pretty low compared to my country, Iceland. The average is 7883 kg CO2! but mine was 3315 kg CO2.
Oh, that's still a pretty good average. Iceland has a lot of volcanic activity, right?
They are both still good I mean compared to what other people have. Its just crazy
