Hello! I am a high school student in Laugarvatn, ICELAND. In Iceland we have a lot of geothermal energy or hot water that comes from the ground, that we use to heat up our houses and for that we are lucky. It's very cold here in the winter and snowy and the summers are also not that hot compared to other scandinavian countries like Denmark or Sweden. My score was very low compered to average icelander. Mine was 3315 kg of CO2 but the average in my country is 7883 kg CO2 per year! It's probably because we recycle alot. But in the moment there is a lot of CO2 coming from our volcano Holuhraun so the pollution is terrible in some places. People were not allowed to go outside for couple of days in a small village here in Iceland! The had to close their windows and turn up the heat in their houses. There have been too many volcano eruptions in the past years for my opinion. It just causes a lot of unnecessary problems.

I thought that Iceland would have low carbon footprints because of wide use geothermal energy. What is the most important contributor to carbon footprints in Iceland?

I think Icelanders should get a "pass" for the CO2 coming from the volcano...you don't have much control over that!

My Name is Aleksandra. I come from Croatia. I think it's great that yours is so low! Your footprint is actually very low compared to the avarage Icelander. You mention it's because you recycle. I think that is commendable!

I agree with Karen that carbon emissions should be lowered if they're naturally caused. That's the earth working, not human caused. I'm a little surprised that something like a volcano is counted but hopefully everyone in that Icelandic village is okay!

Living near a volcano can be both scary and exciting. As a teen I remember living not all that far from Mt. St. Helens when she went off. Ash could even be found up in Seattle, Washington. I agree you should have not only a free pass but you get a plus too. Volcanic soil is very fertile and plants love it.  I would love to visit Iceland and the mountains. Stay safe and enjoy the beauty up there. Icelanders have had a long time to take care of their small home. We could all learn from them.

I never really hear about people recycling; recycling isn't as strongly practiced in my states.  It is amazing that you can still be committed to making the environment better when it doesn't really do the same to you with the Volcano.

I'm from the US and mine was much higher than expected. It was because of transportation. I think it is awesome that you recycle and use renewable energy sources! If we did that more in the US, everyone would likely have much lower carbon footprints! That is interesting that the volcano is spilling so much Co2 that you have to stay inside some days. IT is great that you're doing everything you can on your end to make the environment better!

Your post is very interesting! I am from the USA and our carbon footprints are a lot larger compared to yours. Its easy to see why your carbon footprint is low if you all had to stay inside because the volcano. Its unfortunate that that happen but good everyone is taking safety precautions!

I'm curious as to whether or not volcanic eruptions count as pollution. It's natural, and I'm not sure if that counts or not. I don't have too many volcanoes in my country (U.S). Anyway, you have an amazing footprint! How do you get it so low? I'm pretty eager to lower my own, but especially based off of my states average (15,918kgs) that seems incredible to me. Tips would be appreciated!

I think it's awesome that your footprint is so low. Im from the US and my totally footprint is 16,083 which compared to yours is very very high! I think its super cool how you can heat your house with hot water from the ground. God job on having a low carbon footprint!

Iceland is very different than america. I think its great that you recycle your waste instead of just throwing it away like most of us do here. Keep up the good work.

Wow, it sounds amazing what you guys are able to do with the land! I think that you are very efficient and I commend you on your ability to keep a very low carbon footprint for your area through all the steps you have taken. Hopefully that pollution will clear up soon!

My total score was 23,020 compared to 15,918 I honest think that a need to cut my footprint down
