Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Public Transportation vs Personal Vehciles
Transportation is now the largest source of carbon emissions in the United States. In many U.S. cities and towns, the personal automobile is the single greatest polluter because emissions from millions of vehicles on the road add up. To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, individuals can use cleaner modes of transportation to get around, from public transit to biking and walking. According to an article in, " Fast Facts on Transportation Greenhouse Gas Emissions", "Burning one gallon of gasoline creates about 20 pounds of CO2—which means the average vehicle creates roughly 6 to 9 tons of CO2 each year". The emission of all United State personal vehicle will impact our environment greatly. I propose we enforce a stricter policy of personal vehicles and promote the use of public transportation. Public transportation will reduce energy consumption and harmful greenhouse gas emissions that damage the environment. Traveling by public transportation uses less energy and p roduces less pollution than comparable travel in private vehicles. To make progress in reducing our dependence on foreign oil and impacting climate change, public transportation must be part of the solution.
I totally agree with your point, personal vehicles and cars are a huge producer of carbon dioxide, to add to this I think that another thing we could do is convert to electric cars. Electric or hybrid cars are proven to give off a freakishly lower amount of carbon dioxide and greenhouse gases than gas powered cars. This could be the saving grace of the environment and could slow us down form more global warming. The only reason I say this is because I think it would be very hard to get everyone to convert to public transport considering how people have hour long commutes. In a article on Forbes, it is said that after research, an average electric vehicle could go 80 mpg or miles per gallon. An average gas car can only goes around 23 miles per gallon. This shows how electric cars can work to help our environment and may help us lower carbon emmisions. Electric cars may be slightly more expensive than gas cars but if we want to save our environment that will be the type of step we will have to take.
