Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Should We Use Electric Cars Instead of Gasoline-fueled Cars?

khughesbod2

I think we should start using electric cars instead of gasoline-powered cars for two reasons. My first reason is cost. According to energysage.com, electric vehicles cost less than half the cost of gasoline-powered cars. Therefore, you could buy an electric car that will cost about $485 per year. Compared to normal cars, this is extremely low and you could gain an advantage by being able to save a lot. My second reason is the effect on the environment. An electric car will have little to no effect on an environment since it is powered by energy. Gasoline-fueled cars will play a big role in the environment. Any time the gasoline is burned, the elements sulfur, nitrogen, and carbon are released into our atmosphere. They all tend to combine with oxygen and later hydrogen. This forms the acids: carbonic acid, sulfuric acid, and nitric acid. Then the rain starts to happen and one of these three downpours on to environments below. All three of these acids can have drastic effects on our environment such as lowering the ph level of certain bodies of water. Therefore, choosing g asoline powered cars could put you in the percentage of people who adversely affect the environment. If you do not want this to happen, you should choose electric cars.
