Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Conserving Water

jamsinet22bod7mm

Water conservation includes all the policies, strategies and activities to sustainably manage the natural resource of fresh water, to protect the hydrosphere, and to meet the current and future human demand. Population, household size, and growth and affluence all affect how much water is used. Some ways to conserve water is to turn off the tap when you brush your teeth – this can save 6 liters of water per minute. Place a cistern displacement device in your toilet cistern to reduce the volume of water used in each flush. You can get one of these from your water provider. Take a shorter shower. We cannot live without water. Saving water helps to preserve our environment. It reduces the energy required to process and deliver water, which helps in reducing pollution and in conserving fuel resources. Saving water now means having water available in the future for recreational purposes, too.

I think we can help conserving water just by little things we do every day. There are a lot of people who have their water on while there are brushing their teeth, there a lot of unnecessary water is being spent. As you said, taking shorter showers, or have a shower instead of a bath helps a lot.

At https://www.home-water-works.org/indoor-use/showers they share how much water can be used in one average shower of 8 mins with 17.2  gallons of water on an average per shower. This is a very high number, and I thinking it could be simply lowered by your simple solution of shorter, quicker showers.
