Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Thrifting and Donating Clothes

emilydo

Thrifting is an easy and cheap way to reduce your carbon footprint. Buying clothes from thrift and second hand stores not only cut down on waste but also leave you with "new" and awesome clothes. Goodwill, Out of the Closet, Salvation Army, and Mission Thrift are all great options to shop at in the Bay Area. A recent Huffpost article stated that in the United States alone, there will be 26 billion pounds of clothes and textiles thrown away this year. That number is insanely high, meaning thrifting clothes and also donating clothes help decrease your carbon footprint.

I think thrifting is so amazing! People are able to donate their clothes and get some really cool new clothes. Since one of the four R’s is reuse, it will benefit the earth amazingly if more people started thrifting because factories wouldn’t need to make new clothes which will limit the smoke that is released into the atmosphere.

I agree with this , thrifting is an easy way that you can cut down on waste. If you outgrow your clothes or even clothes that you just don't wear anymore it is easy to go out to a thrift store or a good will and donate them. It won't do you any good if they just sit in your closet and never get worn.
