Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Lack of knowledge about Global warming

emae

I think that one of our biggest problems is our lack of knowledge about environmental issuse. I don't think people understand how much these problems are also affecting them. For example, bottled drinks are big buisness nowdays and in result we have a lot of plastic waste that ends up in all kind of places. Only one in five plastic bottles gets recycled, the rest of them end up polluting oceans and land. Many animals, like fish and turtles, mistake that plastic waste for food and die because of eating it. People don't understand that we will soon start consuming our own rubbish as more and more seefood gets contaminated in that way. So when we are harming our environment, we are also harming ourselves. First step in stopping this vicious cycle should be educating everyone about environmental issuse. Not everyone has heard about them and not everyone belives that we are the cause behind them. I am greatfull that I was introduced to this project in school because it  raised my awarness about how much influence my actions have on the enviornment. I think there should be more projects like this, not only for students, but also for the older generations.

That's true, there are some people that believe that the climate changes aren't real. People are not aware of how their actions affect the Earth.
trying to educate people is a step in the right direction. An extremely hard step, but an important one.
Not only there should be more projects like this one, but there should be more actions. We have to start doing something, not just talk about how it would be nice of people stopped throwing garbage into the oceans.

I definitely agree with you on this. I do feel like our government and the people around just do not think about our daily usage of items that help slowly destroy our planet. In fact, many people just do not care about carbon affecting our atmosphere because they can't physically feel or see any changes happening here on our earth. So, I do think that many people with the lack of knowledge of our slowly dying atmosphere and climate change really does affect the changes people make and our atmosphere overall.
