Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Since we live in Maine, it can be hard to lower your carbon footprint by walking or riding a bike to school or anywhere you need to go, because most people live far away. Since we don’t really have busses, except for school busses, the major way we travel is by car. So one way to reduce a carbon footprint is by carpooling. By traveling with just one other person, the amount of CO2 being released is cut in half, traveling in one car instead of two. So riding with even one or more people would greatly help the environment.

I agree. Even if you do need to travel a longer distance, sharing your car with other people reduces your carbon footprint. Some highways even support carpooling with the carpool lane which can get you places faster, when you car pool.

I agree completely because the only time I am ever in the car is when I am going to school, and if i carpool I could greatly decrease my CO2 emission.

I do think that carpooling could be a good thing but just doing simple things like going to the store or buying some odd item would be really annoying since you would have to wait for other people to go to where you want to go. It would also limit your ability to do leisure activities or travel.

I agree with the carpooling aspect and how you should start doing this on long trips. Or even on just trips to school, if you have friend near by, we could reduce the CO2 emissions by just taking one car.
