Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon footprint transportation

Ryandupee

An easy way to reduce your carbon footprint is by traveling places on foot, biking or taking public transportation. Instead of driving an individual car it would be healthier for you and for the environment to take more environmentally sustainable ways of transportation.

I agree with this, but this might be hard to do if you live in rural community like Rockport. Instead of wiping out the whole idea of no cars, carpooling would be an easier option. Getting in a car with multiple friends can decrease the number of cars traveling, as a result in less CO2 produced. But the idea of walking or biking places would work in a place like downtown Camden.

I agree I believe that it would be far more environmentally stable to ride bikes and walk places or even carpool.  A study from Science Direct says "Walkable communities help to cut greenhouse gas and other emissions by requiring less driving".  Also If you do have to drive you should drive an electric car or carpool that would reduce the emissions but no prohibit you from driving as much as you need to.
