Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Vegetarian or Vegan Diets

almab

Going vegetarian or even vegan can significantly reduce the amount of carbon that is produced by the food that you consume, which drastically lowers your carbon footprint. Animal agriculture is the biggest producer of air pollution, even more than transportation. This industry also reserves food and grain for livestock, when it could be consumed by those in need of food. I personally don’t eat any meat, which lowered my carbon footprint a great deal.

I agree with this, even though I am not vegan or vegetarian, I know that cutting meat or anything produced by animals lowers carbon footprints. Knowing that animal agriculture produces so much air pollution should make people realize that going vegan could really impact not only your carbon footprint, but the world. I think it is a really good idea to at least try for a week being vegetarian, then if you like it, try being vegan.
