Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Heaters and Air Conditioning
With the outside temperatures changing, it can be tempting to turn on your heater or air conditioner so you feel more comfortable in your home. Even though these systems make our inner household more comfortable they are a factor in a lot of peoples high carbon footprint. Instead of turning a heater on when your cold, use blankets instead and make hot foods and drinks. During the summer, when it's hot, you can open the windows in the morning when it's cold then close them before it gets hot so the cold temperature stays inside. When it's hot you can also go outside in the shade and make cold foods and beverages. There's really no reason anyone needs to use any non-natural forms of heating or cooling systems when you can do it naturally and less harmfully for the environment.
I agree with this because at the moment using your heater or air condition might not seem like your harming the environment but as those moments build up to it can affect the environment massively. I have experienced this myself whenever I got cold in my downstairs room (Which has no heaters by the way) I would turn on my space heater. At first, I didn’t really think it was a problem but as time went on I was told by my dad how expensive the power bill was because of the space heater. Most common space heaters are 1500w and are equivalent to powering 15 100w LED light bulbs. You can prevent this from happening in your own household by using blankets, doubling up on socks, and other clothing items. This is just one simple way on how you can help prevent greenhouse gases.
I agree! I grew up with no heating or cooling systems and I completely agree that non-natural forms of heating and cooling are not necessary. However, I live in California, where the weather never gets too hot or cold. Places like Arizona get EXTREMELY HOT during the summers. We, the next generations, have to come up with natural ways to keep places where there are climate extremes adequately warm or cool. Any ideas?
