Wants or Needs?

Is having the latest technology a want or a need?

How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Got Gadgets?

I believe the acquiring the latest technology used to be a want by everyone to be updated with the latest gadgets, but then turned into a source of communication, music, GPS, etc that immediately switched to a must needed necessity. Gadgets such as cell phones act as accessories on our person. In the last 4 years I have gone through 5 phones. Three out of the five were broken to the point that they became unusable and the other 2 were simple cracked. Indeed I could have replaced the crack screen, but my father thought it would be best to buy a new one. I will be honest when I saw  l would like to keep up with the latest technology not in the sense to compete with those around me but to possess the better qualities that the new iPhone's contain. Instead of disposing of these broken down iPhone's in the trash,  I gave them to the E-Waste Recycling in Oakland off of Fruitvale and sold the ones that were still in workable conditions to those that want them. I don't think many people know of E-Waste Recycling and that if it was advertised a lot more, more people would dispose  of their gadgets properly to help impact our environment for the better. Addiction to technology is an ongoing issue that tends to increase more and more with the innovation of latest gadgets. It initiates an obsessive behavior to constantly check social websites and one's email directly from their phone. Apps such as Instagram and Twitter take up most of my generations time when we really could be using that precious time for something more worthwhile. We could involve ourselves in conversations outside of the little white box on a screen, and fully engage ourselves in outdoor activities and hobbies.  Communication with others has become so easy and fast via text and email that few lose their ability to socialize face to face. It is disappointing to see families on vacations or groups of people out to eat and are sitting at the table with their attention focused entirely on their cell phones.

Totally true. I mean I walk through the hallways at school everyone's on their phones. Shoot half the time teachers are on their phones in class!
