Is technology a want or a need?

auorad7

Today we live in a world where technology has taken over. Many people want the newest gadgets and think it's vital to have them. In reality, not having the most up to date technology is not our main problem as human beings. We should be more concerned about the health of our planet, not the newest iPhone. Therefore technology is an unnecessary want but, where would our society be today without it? We would not be as advanced, we wouldn't be able to cure as many people as we can today in hospitals, or be as educated as we are today. Of course, technology is not as important as water or food but, it is a big role in our society. With technology we know more about whats happening in other parts of the world, and it is also a great learning device in schools. Before technology existed we obviously didn't need it to survive, but could we go back to how things were before? People would not know how to get places with out navigation and would have a hard time communicati ng with people who live far away because of their lack of knowledge with maps and writing letters. Therefore, technology is a want and a need in todays society.

I do agree that technology has had a big role in our lives today. It has helped us so much in our everyday lives. I do think that we need technology, but we should limit our use of it. Our lives should not just revolve around our cell phones. I have noticed that because of this advancement in technology, we haven’t been able to spend as much time with others. When I’m out, I sometimes see groups of kids sitting together, but no one is talking; they’re all on their cell phones. Following someone on Instagram or tweeting someone isn’t the same as talking face to face with a friend. It seems as if we have almost become dependent on them, always constantly having to check on it or using it all the time throughout the day. Yes, we do need technology in our world today, but we need to lessen the amount of time we actually use it. Maybe instead of watching Netflix all day, we could go outside or spend time with friends. Using less technology also helps our carbon footprint. We won’t be needing to charge our devices all the time, which means that we use less energy.
