Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Technology is both a want and a need.
Hi my name is Enkie , I am from Oakland High. I feel that technology is wanted and needed. It goes two ways when it comes to technology. For instance a phone is needed to use the map, to call or text someone who is far away and it can help when you are lost which makes phones a need. However, there can be a want where someone want the latest technology as for example the new iPhone 6. People might just want to have it because its popular. So there are not really a specific right side to technology.
I agree with you that people don't necessarily have to have the iPhone 6 as a necessity to survive, but a phone can also help to survive like if you in a emergency situation. I agree that it can go both ways too.
I agree with what you said because I think some people just want the "trend" or what's popular. But I also agree with how it can go needed.
I agree, technology was not used in the centuries before and people have lived out fine. Now that technology was actually created, people think that cell phones computers etc. are necessities. This has happened through the influence of others having this technology. Since everyone else has this technology, this seems like the only way to getting through to others, or using the internet as a information source instead of books or hands on articles. Technically, technology can be lived without, but now that people only use this source, it's pretty much seemed as a necessity.
I completely agree, consumers have become addicted to getting the next big thing, and I must admit that i have as well. However I can also state that it is important to have priorities. If one has a perfectly usable iphone 4 or 5, why upgrade? I think if people, including myself, begin to take into account what they have that actually works, then people will stop prioritizing want over need.
I agree with your statement Enkie technology can be helpful in many situations, but lately the technology industry has grown wildly popular and people are beginning to overuse and become incapable of daily life without very complex technology. In most of our pockets we hold all the information in the world and can look up any information by pulling out our smart phones. By our generation becoming overly dependent on these things we have learned that we always "need" the latest and greatest technology when really older generations work completely fine. Hopefully companies will soon start focusing on more necessary adaptions for technology like navigation and educational tools than games and design.
We do heavily rely on technology nowadays, but is that really a good thing? Texting and being able to get in touch with someone is one thing, but not knowing how to do things or not learning things in general isn't good. If we rely on google for everything then are we helping or hurting ourselves?
