As a teenager myself, I have a deep feeling myself and I have actually considered of it----this one I want is it really one of the necessities to me? And the answers were always "no". People always think what products with them represent their social status and sometimes they just want to purchase things if they have the ability. So we buy things that are not necessities to us, and the old ones just stay in the bottom of the cabinets or thrown away. So these mentalities caused a huge amount of wastes in all kinds of goods. A solution to solve the root causes  was to popularize the education of helping citizens to  have their ability in judging whether they really need this product or they just want to have it.
