I upgrade my cellphone every two years or maybe more. Each time the new model comes out, it comes out with a little "surprises", like bigger screen and bigger battery. But in China, plenty of my friends are still going to upgrade their cellphone. It confused me because if your cellphones are still functional, then why don't just keep using it, why choose to cause those new garbage and pollute our lovely environment. I don't think bigger screen is a necessary need. Try not to be so excited and think do I really need that.

I agree that we live in a consumerist world wherein having the latest technology is a priority for many people. In addition, this cycle of constantly buying updated technology has created a great amount of electronic waste that require large amounts of energy to recycle and re-purpose (that is, if they're even recycled). Companies constantly release new models because it generates profit, but we as consumers need to evaluate our reason for buying these products. If the bad outweigh the good, then its not worth it and you'll be doing the environment a favor.

I think that living in a consumerist world like the world that we're having is bad. Because people can't be satisfied with just one thing, they need more and more of the same products. Like Lukelu commented, every time the new model comes out, it comes with new additions or features, and these causes people to buy more and more. I think that we need to stop doing these and star living or be satisfied with what everyone has.

I believe in what oscar is saying we are living in a consumerist world where people are not cool with what they have so they make the cellphone a need but not just any cellphone a new one.
