Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Wants vs. Needs
This is a common question on what today is wants and what are needs? New devices or things that are not needed can be considered wants. Sometimes people may justify a want as a need without thinking about it. Instead of buying the item right away think about it for a few days, if you don't still want the item then it wasn't a need.

That is true. However, some companies make it necessary for one to continue purchasing new products from their companies, or the technology that you possess will not work as well or at all. So, to some extent, it is both a want and a need.
Companies aren't making it necessary to buy new products, it's simply the limits of their technology.
