Technology has taken over a huge part of the everyday life of the average American citizen although it is not a necessity. Having the latest technology is a want due to the fact that the latest technology has abilities and distractions that make the device far beyond anything that constitutes as a need. We do not really need the new model of a cell phone because the only thing that changes with each new release is not necessarily the calling ability, which is a need, but the other arbitrary functions and overall design and shape of the phone. I never stop to consider the environmental impact of these purchases because I am so distracted by my want for the latest technology and this shocks me. I think it is time to stop, and consider what we are really getting from buying the latest technology because it can be unnecessary use of carbon for a update that we want and do not need.
