Technology overall starts off as a need. I feel like our world needed a technology growth,  so our economy could have the advancement it needed. Over time, technology has made our society lazy, and is one of the main factors for obesity rates going up. We need technology such as cell phones for safety reasons. Cell phones become a want when you want to communicate with friends and have social media.
