Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Having the newest technology is a want, until it come to the point where there is needed communication. Sure it is nice to be caught up with all of the newest trends and fashions, but you don't need that to live. Also, technology is a big part of education these days. A lot of schoolwork now relies on a computer/phone/tablet. Without the needed software, students and teachers would have to do twice if not more of the work.
