Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Want or Need?
Wanting something and needing something are two very unalike things that us kids usually get caught up in. Something that a lot of people think they need is a new or more electronics but really that is a want, I think that if we can reduce our purchasing of things that we just want and don't need we can really decrease a lot of these big problems we have today, such as our spike in CO^2 levels.
I totally agree. No one needs the fancy new car that is burning off the most harmful gas and no one needs a computer, a phone, a tablet, and whatever other electronics we have. Technology is made where its constantly coming out with new products, new ideas that just drive you towards it. Of course, you end up buying it. Today, our CO2 levels just keep elevating and many people say its because of all of the fancy new inventions we have like air planes, cars, ect. The factories making all of the products will keep on producing more and more if customers continue to buy it. Think about how much of your day you sit in front of a screen wether its at school or sitting at home. Next time you buy another electronic, as yourself if you want it or need it.
^definitely agreeable nice job guys
i totally agree, half the stuff i have is a want
I agree with Anaelle and Iniko. Companies like Apple purposely wait to add limited new features to their devices so it can keep customers on edge. Exhaust from new cars that run on gasoline keep on adding to the global warming in our environment. We spend a lot more of our time on an electronic device than we realize. New electronics definitely are things we want, not need.
This is Incredible point which everyone who is interested in reducing their carbon footprint should consider, which is whether something is something essential or an incentive in their everyday life.
Good point, Annaelle.
I totally agree but not just electronics, but all unnecessary items in general. Think about it, thousands of trees and wildlife are being taken from their habitats so that we could have that cool new amusement parks, malls, etc. Yes, we all love these places but look at what they are doing to our environment. Are they really necessary? Yes the new nikes are cool, but do we really need them? Just remember when you buy anything you necessarily do not need, you are putting more carbon dioxide in the air and killing off life that can help keep the greenhouse gases from getting out of control. Oh and that mall you go to caused thousands of trees to get cut down and thousands of animals to loose their homes.
I agree, but some of the fancy new cars coming out have better gas mileage and some don't run off gas at all, such as the Tesla. I still would say that wanting one of those cars is exactly that, a want. Along with this, many jobs do require the need for higher end technology. I don't agree that EVERYONE necessarily needs them, but some do.
