Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Do we need "Hoverboards" or can we walk regularly?
Think about the classic style of transportation, the way we were raised! Without the classic style, walking, then how could we get to school, to the mall, around the world! With hoverboards coming along, sure there a some up, but think about the downs! If it breaks and you do not know how to walk then how are you suppose to get back home?
Noah thanks for commenting this. I think people really do need to grasp that just because something is cool-looking or fun, it is not necessarily something that everyone should have. Walking would be a more beneficial alternative, as one would get exercise, and save energy (you wouldn't have to charge a hoverboard, which would save energy and could prevent fires http://www.cnet.com/news/why-are-hoverb … hing-fire/ ) from doing so,
I agree. I feel like this is more of a want than a need. Our world is surrounded with many types of technology that we want just because its popular.
I agree that walking is very important. But not knowing how to walk? That's a stretch. One of the first things we learn as infants is how to walk. You don't just "forget" because you are using a new toy. People drive everywhere and still know how to walk. People take buses and ride bikes and still know how to walk. I agree with what you're saying but that "not knowing how to walk" is nonsense.
I think that you are absolutely correct, we do not just forget how to walk, but I do think that hover boards are defiantly a want that is very high on the list. I think that if you look where these things are being built, in a factory in China and think about how much CO^2 it takes to get here and to be made. Also, something with that kind of a battery requires a really hard and long charge which makes more CO^2 than just a phone charging. So yes, that one statement was very inaccurate, but I still believe that these new electronics are setting us back even further than they should be and it is a big problem.
