In today's society, technology is simultaneously a want and a need. As an asset to lifestyle, technology has become a want. With new models released monthly and minute changes in features, smartphones have become as disposable as food. The constant consumption and disposal of technology leads to the exploitation of resources, leading to increased greenhouse gas omissions, and increased pollution within our oceans and on our land. This destroys ecosystems, kills species, and leads to death and disease.

As a result of this sort of environmental degradation, technology has ironically become some what of a need to combat the negative effects of overconsumption. This has manifested itself in technology such as renewable energy sources and genetically modified bacteria used for pollutant cleanups.
