Wants or Needs? >
Technology Is a Want
I believe having the latest technology is a want which is now becoming a need. Most people do not need the high tech phones or devices they currently have. The purpose of a phone is to promote connections with people through a more efficient process. Based on this, a simple phone would work. In the past, phones were big and clunky, they have now evolved to become more portable handheld devices. Recently however, phones are back to getting bigger and bigger. This defeats the purpose of efficient communication and is unnecessary. The extra accessories like a touchscreen, high quality camera, extra storage is not needed. Society pressures people into wanting and "needing" these things. The more people that have the latest technology, the more other people feel the need to join the bandwagon and fit it. Because of this, many work spaces and organizations have incorporated technology into the normal work flow to keep up with the world and stay current.
Today technology has become such a major factor in everyday life that it is hard to function without it. Accord ing to the International Telecommunication Union a little over forty percent of the world have access and use the internet meaning that they have access to technology. Pew Research Center show that seventy-eight percent of adults under the age of thirty own a laptop or desktop computer. People at the age of thirty or under are usually the working class. This goes to show that technology has become so prominent in to day that without it working and communicating is difficult. Due to society wants, technology has become so major that it has turned into a need.
