In society, technology has become a huge part of our lives. We use technology for almost everything... but is this a bad thing? I think that when a new iPhone comes out nearly every year, and many throw away their old phones to accommodate a new one, we can see that it has become partially a want. 2.5 million tons of electronics were discarded in 2010, according to The Ecologist. This huge number shows that in some ways technology is not purchased only out of necessity, but to keep up with the latest phone trends. However, technology is also a need, proven by the fact that we are using technology right now to educate each other about the climate, and what we can do to stop it. Therefore, I think that although we shouldn't have a materialistic society, some technology is a real necessity and can be beneficial.
