I think that the United States is a very consumerist society that buys the newest technological model even if they don't need it. According to a Gallup poll, over half of all Americans buy new phones even if their old phone still works. In fact, most people with Iphones will buy the newest Iphone as soon as their cellphone provider will allow them, which means they get a new phone every 2 years. Personally, I would want to get the newest phone, but I know that's also extremely wasteful and thus I do not. For instance, I've had my current phone for 3 years now, and my phone before then I had for 3 years until it became obsolete. The reason that I don't get a new phone every 2 years like the majority of The United States is because it's a waste of money, as well as the fact that e-waste is hard to properly get rid of, thus leading to harmful environmental impacts if they go to landfills.

I agree with you on that aspect. I have seen many people who will buy the latest technology just because "everyone else has it" or "it looks cool". It also massively harms our environment because of the landfills, like you mentioned. I do agree that it harms Earth but I do think that technology is a need more than a want in our society. Think about its impact in the medical field. We have made many, many discoveries and found cures to sicknesses with the help of modern technology. If we did not have technology, where would be? Technology also has helped us make scientific discoveries about Earth and explain many happenings in nature. Even though it harms Earth, technology was what helped us discover that Earth is warming in the first place. So if we want to find out how to preserve Earth and other things that might effect our changing climate, we need technology.
