Buying in Excess Due to Access
Something I have noticed about my family's shopping habits is we buy things in excess. Whenever we make a food run we typically come back with more than we expected. Because of the accessibility of food, my family will buy large amounts of it without thoroughly considering what we need. Instead, we tend to buy what we want in addition to what we need. This leads to a waste problem. All of the food accumulated towards the beginning of the week ends up being thrown out by the end. I have attempted to convince my family members to cut down on our shopping and only buy what we actually need, but there is a sort of comfort that is provided in having so much food around. I wonder if this issue is international or only something that occurs in my family.
My family used to waste a lot of food before, but we've improved a lot! For us, the main thing is avoid buying in bulk. We never go to Costco because we always ended up wasting food that we bought there. Sometimes things are more worth it for the price when you buy them in large quantities, but the waste in the end really isn't worth it. Another thing we do is discuss what meals we're going to cook and what ingredients we'll need for the week so we only buy what we know we're going to use.
Hi my name is Mya. My family also buys things in excess amounts because of how big my family is. That idea is a really good one and is completely accurate.
I agree. Its hard passing by so many different things in stores without saying, "I want to buy that.", or "I might need that."
Hi my name is Jack from North Carolina. I agree with you, I think since we have so much access to products it is hard not to buy some things. Do you think it is hard to pass up a deal?
