Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Technology is a Want or is it a Need? 4/24/17
Personally, I think the latest technology is mainly a want. People say it's a need because they think it's the way to be more advanced than others. I usually get a used, hand me down phone rather than a new phone. Recently I got the iPhone 7 as it is the newest model. I think you don't really the newest model but if I were to buy a new one it would be the newest. Although I didn't consider the environmental impacts of the new phone, Apple itself made it the goal for the new iPhone to be designed with features that reduce the environmental impact. These features take out hazardous substances from the iPhone like lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent, chromium, and the brominated flame retardants.

I strongly agree with you because no one needs the newest technology. A need is something that one can not live without, while a want is something that is used for convenience. Some say that the latest technology is necessary, however, many people lived for a long time without having the technology that we have now. So I completely agree with you and I am impressed that you have mainly used passed down phones before.
I completely agree with you. I think there are pros and cons to technology because although it can benefit our lives and make it a lot more efficient, it can also cause a significant amount of damage to the earth. Some people think that they cannot live without their phones and that their life depends on their phone, whilst some people don't actually care about having a phone, and can live life completely fine without one.
I feel like if the hand me down phone is still working and has no problems, there is no reason to throw it out and buy a new one that will work just the same. Wanting or needing a phone is completely understandable, but throwing away a completely usable phone for something new is not.
I 100% agree with you. Today people cannot bare to live without phones. 20 century people have lived their whole lives with phones in their hands. In the 1900's our parents lived without phones and it was fine. Today if we could reduce the use of any electronics it could help save the earth. Since new iPhones are upgraded about every two years people feel the need to want better phones but if people only got phones when necessarily it could reduce the amount of CO2 emissions. Even sharing phones could help.
Today if only every person knew how much damage they were doing by purchasing and being on electronics they might be aware that soon the situation will be out of control.
