Wants or Needs?

Is having the latest technology a want or a need?

How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

M'kai's Bangin' Ideas

New technology is obviously a want but the tech industries have made it a need. This is because of new innovations that you would need for the newer models of technology that won't support older models. An example of this would be chargers, software updates, and apps / utilities. I do believe that some people are addicted, but only addicted to using their technology, not buying new technology. The change in this needs to be done by the industry. They are focused on making money so they use innovation to force you to buy new technology. #resistthesystem!!! Yu fill me????

I agree with M'kai's post. Brands and industries such as Apple or Samsung have updated their products in a way the forces people to buy the newest model. They stop supporting older models anymore and if it breaks, they won't fix it. Even if the new model is only slightly different from the previous one, they sell it in a way that makes it seem completely new. If Companies reduced the amount of forced change, customers would spent a great deal less.

I agree with M'kai's idea about how technology fills our lives. If you walk out on the street all you see are people on their phones. I, myself, am attached to my phone to the point where I couldn't go a day with out it. What seems to be a big step forward with screen time and activeness to 2 hours per day. Elliott also had a good point where he mentioned that these current technology industries are always coming out with new models and ideas. And that they almost force you to buy them because they are better and newer and nobody wants to be stuck with an old model. If the companies would send out any supportive message to their users saying that screen time is a want not a need it could gain many followers. Also our technology is so advanced Apple or Android could program a system that tells you the healthy amount of screen time vs the amount you have done that day.
