Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Technology a want
Technology is most definitely a want but not as much a need. Technology is definitely very useful especially now and has become a part of our society. The only reason why technology is a need is because it has made such a large impact on our current society and if we took technology away from our current society then it would most definitely collapse.
My family has tons of devices: Ipads, phones, computers, etc. I feel that my family could definitely decrease the amount of devices we have, considering there are some just lying around in drawers. I have a computer and a phone personally, but the rest of my family uses many more devices. I feel that we could certainly decrease the number of devices we have and possibly share some of them (we have a 7 person family). Although technology is not necessary to a humans survival, it is a resource that helps my family get work done more efficiently. For this reason we wouldn't be capable of getting rid of ALL of our technology. I think the most reasonable would be to cut down on the amount of Ipads we have, as over the years we have gotten many.
(adding to my original post) I also know many people that have gotten addicted to their devices and feel that they could never live without them. This includes my sister whom is always on her phone. I have never thought about the environmental impact when I purchased a piece of technology because I am usually just excited to get the newest model or just have an upgrade from my old phone. I probably get a new piece of technology every 2 or 3 years, and I never buy them because they are always gifts.
I agree that wanting or having the newest technology is more of a want not a need. I also noticed while doing this assignment that my family and I have several devices laying around the house that we don't even use anymore. We as people need to do a better job of using the technology we already have instead of purchasing new ones.
I agree, People don't use it for important things, they use it more as an essential. People don't need technology because they can live without it, as people did when there was no technology at all.
