Student Footprints

Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.

Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?

Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint (Mooresville, NC)

6129566751

Hi my name is Sarah, I am 18 years old. I attend school at Senior Mooresville high school. My carbon footprint total was 42,586 kgs. My total would be considered above average. The majority of my carbon footprint would be found in my transportation do to the fact that it was very high compared to my region. I was surprised on how high my purchases were. I was also surprised at how low my food and electricity were. I learned that I drive a lot around town which caused my total carbon footprint to be very high. I plan to reduce my driving.

Transportation= 23,259 kgs
Home= 14,990 kgs
Food= 3,641 kgs
Purchases= 696 kgs

Hi,
My name is Rebecca from China. I am 16 years old. Actually I have the same problem as yours. The majority of my carbon footprint is my transportation too. As you, it's my first time to know the truth and it shock me. I didn't aware this before. Fortunately, I can change it now! I can ride bike instead of walking. If the destination is not far away, I can walk! My next step is to teach my family and my friends! By the way, nice to meet you!
