Is Having the New Technology a Need?
In modern day society, having the new phone or laptop is a "must". Despite its effects on the environment, a lot of people are heavily intrigued with the new features shown and having what everyone else has. Technology not only informs us about daily events, but we can all communicate with the click of a few buttons. However, upgrading all your devices every few months can waste energy and increase your carbon footprint. As the saying goes, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it", meaning that if what you having doesn't have anything wrong with it, you don't need to replace it with something that is stated better in commercials and ads. The amount of energy used in the production of your devices drastically changes the earth. If you're constantly buying these devices, companies are constantly producing them in extremely high numbers, harming the environment and using earth's resources in ways that aren't necessary. Having technology isn't a taboo to environmentalists, but next time you're in line for the new phone, reconsider what you have, what you want, and what is necessary.
This is so true, my generation is way too obsessed with having the newest and best version of electrical appliance. Not only is it completely unnecessary and a large waste of money, but it harshly impacts out environment. The creation of these devices creates very large amounts of emissions, for apple products alone they must be created in a country very far away (China) and shipped all the way to the US. The devices will then be shipped all the way back to China for the Chinese to buy if they want the product, this whole system is terribly wasteful and is only done to increase profit. If companies were less concerned with making more money and instead the condition of the earth, we would be doing much better. The people that buy these products can choose to take a stand, an example would be boycotting a product until the company changes how shipping is done or how they are created to be more environment friendly.
