Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Technology and Special Learning
While I understand that many people feel like technology is a want and not a need (mostly the older generation) I would like to propose a counter. Although many people can survive and enjoy their lives, without computers I would have never gotten my diagnosis or any help for my ADHD and Autism which were preventing me from completing assignments and being able to participate in practically everything. If I was forced to write all of my essays on paper instead of typing them up and having helpful spelling suggestions, i probably would have dropped out of school years ago.
Technology is absolutely a need. If say, for example, every computer on earth just stopped working all at once, most power plants would shut off within minutes. These power plants can't just shut down. Medical equipment, electric heating in houses, and many other important things would shut down. Technology is a need in a sense that is required for a lot of people to live or thrive, but what people mean by it being a "want" is that a lot of people want to get the latest iPhone, or possibly an ultra high end computer that can play every video game. These sorts of things are what people are talking about, and they can be improved.
