Wants or Needs?

Is having the latest technology a want or a need?

How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Technology; Want or Need?

elaaLLHS

I think technology, in some cases, can be a want and need. There are hundreds of good uses of technology. It makes our lives so much easier, but some might say it separates us from the real world. We all benefit from technology, for example; You can do many tasks online, like work shop online, work online, study online, research, learn, use navigation, use health apps, use translation apps while traveling and many more.
According to https://muut.com/i/footprint/wants-or-n … ant-or-a-n , many people agree that technology is a want and need, even though there are positive and negative opinions towards this topic. Mostly, technology is a positive thing that helps make  all of our lives easier.

Technology is a need for me as I home school. It makes my life easier when I am doing a research. I agree it is a useful tool but as with all things it can be negative. Online predators, scams, and risk of your identity being stolen are some of the threats users face.

Technology is very important; We need it for all sorts of everyday appliances, for one. As far as helping with communication, school work, and information in general, technology is definitely a need. On the other hand, there's also the "want" side because you don't really need every app on your phone or all the time some people spend watching TV.

Technology is a borderline want and a need. Staying connected to the world and keeping up with the changing times is incredibly important, yet with the numerous apps and technology developed for entertainment the line between a want and a need becomes blurred. Children nowadays are inside watching videos and playing games on their technology instead of playing outside, there have been numerous times where I have been in a restaurant and a parent gives their child a phone to watch a show on, so for them it is a need. Times are changing, but sadly with that so are the wants and needs of generations.

For me technology is a want. If no one had technology then we would all be fine without it, but since everyone has technology we feel out of it if we don't have a phone or computer etc. I don't have a phone, my 12 year old brother doesn't, my 16 year old sister doesn't, and even my sister that is in collage doesn't have a phone. So far we are all okay without a phone, but our world is changing and there are some thing that you can't do if you don't have a phone. Kids now are starting to forget how to play out side and just sit inside playing a video game. I love playing outside and it makes me sad to see so many little kids inside all the time on their phones. I think kids are to young to have phones, they don't ever call anyone, they just play video games and watch movies. I know that phones are really nice and it would be very hard if we couldn't call anyone, but we use them to much. Phones are harming our world and making so much waste. Its time to slow down.

In my opinion, I think technology is a need and a want. For example, it is a need because if you were researching for a project; before, you would have to look through thousands of books in the library to find the right book or books to research through. Now, you could just search Google to pull up numerous websites that can help you find what you need. It is time saving, incredibly helpful, and easier to communicate with others.
But, technology is also not good for children who are using it at such a young age to play games and watch movies all day instead of using the time to play outside with friends and breathe in the fresh air and look at your environment outside. Children are damaging their vision at a very young age.
So there is a want side because people at every age should not need a phone or a laptop in front of them. Also, instead of looking at your phone all day, you could spend time to communicate with others.
In conclusion, technology can be both a need and a want and I would like to see what new technology will be created in the future.

Technology is something we use everyday at my high school. It allows for easy communication between students and teachers and also allows us to submit our assignments in an orderly fashion. This, in turn, allows for teachers to grade the assignments in a more efficient manor. We use it to complete research for projects and to keep track of our lives. However, I do agree that we as humans can become too dependent on technology. Children and adults alike spend hours staring at a screen (and not all of those hours are spent doing important things). In short, I believe technology is a need in our society, but needs to be used in moderation.

Recently, I read an article focused on the fact that technology is helping scientists discover more about climate change. This made me think, if technology was a want, would we really know all of the facts and major causes of it? Technology has helped scientists spread the word to the world about climate change. In the article, it states, "Next-generation sequencing approaches are fundamentally changing the way in which environmental scientists undertake studies to understand how organisms are responding or may respond in the future to climate change" (Stillman and Armstrong). Without technology, I would have not learned about some super corals beating climate change and Paris preparing to be this ideal "sustainable city." Without technology, climate change would be no bigger than a rumor.

I think it is important to use technology for scientific studies, but people use it every day for other reasons that aren't based on scientific research.

I don’t think that technology is only good when it comes to science, it has completely changed and developed our society. I think that as a human we have to decide how we personally use technology, and use only as much as we need.
