Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Spending less (Wants or Needs?)
One thing I noticed while calculating my footprint was that the purchases portion of one's carbon footprint is something that could be easily reduced. Alternatives in regards to clothes, for example, are receiving and giving away hand-me-downs or purchasing used clothes. Also, packaging comes on or with so many products. From food, to a pencil, to a piece of technology. Buying the products with less packaging, or simply being more frugal with spending, could help a great deal when it comes to reducing package waste. Also while shopping, one could use reusable bags to reduce waste. Packaging hurts the environment in multiple ways. No matter if we are burning it in a factoring, or filling our beaches with it, reducing our package waste is something the human race must do in order to improve the Earth, our home.
