Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
wants or needs
I feel our society has become so materialistic, that we misuse the word need. People often feel like they need to have the newest, coolest things that "everyone has," which is not true. There are so many things, like phones or electronics that we feel we need new versions of so often, even if they work perfectly fine. Just because a new item might be nice or helpful to have, does not mean we need it. Our society should try to become more aware of what we actually need, rather than what we think we need based on other people. We can help each other, the environment, and the overall wellness of our planet if we set our priorities straight.
I agree with what you say because big companies come out with brand new technology that people want. Also, people supposedly need to have that thing because they see other people with it. I think that people should watch out for what they want and buy because sometimes it could have a negative affect on our society than a positive affect.
I absolutely agree with what you have to say. Big technology companies such as Apple or Android usually release at least one mobile device a year which is a big concern to our society. People do not need to have these new devices, but instead they want these devices. I currently have the iPhone 5 and it works perfectly fine in which I can still communicate and access my applications just as an iPhone X would. It is important that we become more aware of what we need and want because soon or later we are going to lack the actual materials that we need.
I disagree with you. Here is the information I got from you. In your example, people today are using the phones and electronics, also changing for the new one. And you said they are being way too materialistic, the new item might be nice or helpful to have, but doesn't mean we need it.
As you said, the new item is nice and helpful. I would like to point out that the new items would make people's lives more efficient, in this case, there is no value to criticize people who get new items.
Besides, you are pointing at that people are looking for the newest, coolest things that "everyone has," some of the comments are saying that people supposedly need to have that thing because they see other people with it. These points that you are saying are the fashion that all people are chasing for. Which chasing for fashion is something positive (There are people who always chasing for fashion and lost themselves, however, there is nothing wrong with being fashion).
