Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Wants or Needs
I believe that the idea of getting every new model of phones and technology is a want. People live nowadays revolve around their phones and technology they have around them. Though our lives really do not have to rely on them as we do. Did you know that in 2011 35% of adults in the USA had smartphones? In less than 5 years in 2015 64% of American adults had smartphones. This is just an example of how this country and its people are becoming addicted to these items and are relying on them more than needed. I also have a phone but I do not have the newest but I do think I use it too much sometimes, but I am now doing my best to refrain from it.
I agree with you because most americans take many things for granted and act like we are entitled to them. Life in the US is revolved around technology such as, computers, smartphones, TV's, video games, and many other forms of technology. An average american adult spends $1,200 annually on consumer electronics like smartphones or computers. Since there is an abundance of technology in the US compared to other countries in the world, we take technology and other wants that are accessible for granted. We have a mindset that we need to get the latest smartphone or computer because we think that it is a necessity. It is not a necessity because there are people around the world who are starving and need clothes. Food, water, and clothes are necessities, not smartphones or other electronics. I agree with you that we do not need to rely on consumer electronics and that we could limit our usage on these items. This will better our minds, environment, and potentially oth ers lives who are need. I will try to minimize the time I spend on my phone and computer, so I can focus on the more important things in life.
I do believe that the average person in this country spends an excessive amount of time on their cellular devices-- in a recent study it was found that the average person spends 90 minutes a day on their phone, which adds up to 23 days a year and 4 years of the averages person's life. However, it seems increasingly likely that this amount of time will only grow as education and work environments begin to rely more and more on technology. Unfortunately, it seems that soon our wants may become needs in order to be successful in a professional environment.
I would agree because you don't always need to have the newest piece of technology. to addon, if you needed it would be for a good cause, for example, your old phone broke and you need a new one as soon as possible.
I would agree because you don't always need to have the newest piece of technology. To add on, if you needed it would be for a good cause, for example, your old phone broke and you need a new one as soon as possible. However, people should be more aware when they throw away their technology. According to earth911 .com, the US creates 9.4 million tons of tech waste each year. That's more than any other country.
