Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

My Carbon Footprint Walnut Creek,CA
In my biology class, we recently did Carbon Footprint Challenge. My total carbon footprint is 6631 kg of carbon and the average carbon that Californian produce is 9727. I am producing much lower carbon than the average Californians are producing. My carbon is mostly produce from food. 3113 kg of carbon is producing on my food almost every year and the average of Californian is 2223 kg per year.I was surprised by my total weight of carbon that I release for my food. My family try to reduce the food waste by grabbing enough amount of food that I am actually going to finish, but most of my carbon is producing from my food because my family eats pretty much a lot. It will take some time, but I will try to reduce my carbon on food.
My lowest carbon releases from the transportation. I was pretty surprised on my total weight because the weight was surprisingly low. My total weight of carbon in transportation per year is 709 kg and the average of transportation is California is 2557 kg. I think I know why the carbon was pretty low on my transportation because I don't really rid e car unless my parents just drives me to school and pick me up. I also carpool with my friend to go to cross country meet. When I spend time with my friend, we mostly walk to downtown and spend time there. I will release just small amount of carbon for my transportation to reduce total carbon dioxide.
My carbon production is mostly from transport at 5,571. I think this is because I have taken a big trip this year. I also live relatively far from school. My lowest carbon production comes from purchases at 762. I don't buy clothes very often.
Your carbon footprint is much lower than the average person towards the east, most people in the east choose to consume and buy more, instead of growing. That is a good thing that you grow your own produce and have such a low footprint.
I think that your doing a good job keeping your carbon footprint low and that it is good that your family is trying to reduce the amount in food.
Why is your carbon footprint so low?
I see you don't travel a lot because your data was really low compared to mine and I don't travel very much
After reading your results, it seems like your carbon footprint is significantly lower than mine! I also noticed that in California the average carbon footprint is significantly lower than the average carbon footprint in North Carolina. This seems interesting, as I had always imagined that people in California would use a lot more energy- as there is a lot of traffic, technology, people, etc. However, people in California may be more aware of their carbon footprints and may try to conserve their energy more than we do in North Carolina. I think that it’s great that your family conserves food and doesn’t waste uneaten food. In order to continue reducing your carbon footprint, I would suggest creating a compost for any fruit and vegetable scraps you may have left over after meals. By creating a compost, you can restore biodegradable substances back to the earth and help replenish the soil! Rather than throwing away scraps of fruits and vegetables, you can help the environment by creating a compost!
Your results (and the average of North Carolina) differ from North Carolina drastically. For some reason, I have been seeing an ongoing trend of transportation being lower in the west coast then of the east coast. The fact that you carpool and walk around town with your friends most likely altered your results.
Your average is way below mine and California's average is way below North Carolina's. But based on your results it does not seem that you have to change that much stuff
You did an outstanding job on explaining your Carbon Footprint project. Everything was crystal clear, and you don't even need to change hardly anything up, it is exceptionally well written!! A+!!!!!!!!!
I think this is because you have taken a big trip this year. And also because you live relatively far from school.
You did a really good job explaining everything about your carbon footprint! I think that it is very cool how you and your family conserves foot and doesn't waste it.
I think that this is a really good carbon footprint. You explained everything very well and have good ways on how you are going to reduce some problems you have.
Your average is way below mine and California's average is below North Carolinas. I think your carbon footprint is reasonable and you shouldn't have to change much for it to be better. I especially like how your family shops for food, only grabbing as much as needed.
Your footprint is much lower then mine. I think it's really good how little you use for transportation. You don't necessarily need to change much about your lifestyle because your footprint is already really good.
I am surprised that the total weight of your transportation is so low, because the my carbon is mostly produce from transportation, it's about 3812 kg. Therefore, I think I should less ask my parents drive me, I will use public transportation more.
About the food, in my opinion, maybe you can eat more organic food rather than the food that have high calorie, this would not only help you lower the carbon weight but also can make your dietary habit more healthy.
