Students from around the world calculated their class mean and standard deviations for their footprints and posted them on our world map.
Do you see differences across the globe? If so, why do you think those differences exist?
Did you use the calculator to try to reduce your footprint down to the average from a citizen of another country? What changes would you have to make to lower your footprint in this way? Are you going to try and take some of these actions in your daily life?

Carbon Footprint-Ela, Poland
Hi! My name is Ela. I live in Rybnik, Poland. My results from the calculator said that my total footprint was 6784 kgs. My region average is 6526 kgs, so I produce a little more CO2 than other people in my area. I think that it is because of my 'home' category. I love to bathe for a long time, it relaxed me, so I use a lot of hot water. I know that I should take a quick shower, but I just can't resign of this habit. My family heat our home with carbon, so we produce a lot of pollution to the environment.. Maybe we have to change it for more eco-conscious method, or I really have to take a quick shower. What do you think about it? What we should do to reduce high result in 'home' category?
Maybe taking quicker showers would help.
Hmm.. maybe you're right, but it will be hard to me. To be honest I don't want to resign of my bathe
. Maybe I would try to persuade my parents to change heating system or are you have any better ideas? What's more we heat our house in 9 months, I think that we don't need to do it so long..
haha that could work to. and no i don't have any better ideas.
I really appreciate your advice
, and what is your footprint @makennah15?
Aside from quicker shower, using compostable utensils sometimes, not even all of the times, might help a lot instead of using paper plates, plastic utensils, or using regular silver wear and using water bills to clean and wash!!
Even if you do use paper plates or plastic utensils, you should recycle them
Compared to my carbon footprint yours is very low! I think instead of heating your house for 9 months you could use blankets, fire, ect, when heating isn't necessary.
That is a very great idea and a cool one to it would work very well good job!!
Your footprint is actually considerably low compared to others I've seen (including my own) and it isn't really that much higher than the average for your area. Long showers/baths are a relaxing habit that people (mainly myself) tend not to want to get rid of, I'm afraid I can't really give any suggestions.
Installing shower heads that use less water and low flow toilets can also save water and decrease your footprint. But great job on keeping yours low.
Most people have the same problem as you.
I enjoyed reading your results on your carbon footprint, I thought it was very interesting how your region's footprint is much lower than my region's.
Your footprint is almost half of mine! I agree with how my home should be larger than normal because I like longer showers than normal.
Your footprint is a lot less than mine which had a total of 13,038kg. I think that it is okay with having your home be larger than average.
Ela I think you shouldn't waste your time taking a bath! If you take a shower you wouldn't need so much water. I know it is hard, but you must do it for the environment! Our planet need us to stop taking baths hahah ![]()
Nice to have you on this forum. You should really consider abandoning your "habits", because when you try to do that you will eventually succeed in doing so, and that will become your new habit! Just a tiny thought. ![]()
Thank you for all your answers, I try listen to your advices and use them in my life
.
@tomkooo yeah, and we all die because of terrible smell, haha, but who cares, let's try to do it! But you first hahaha ![]()
@knopsaa challenge accepted! But you don't need to smell terrible! You can have a shower, don't worry, you won't stink :*
hahaha okay @tomkooo :*
Personally, I suggest you to have a short bath. Because we should not waste energy. Though you like taking a long shower, you can time yourself and save time.
