Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Both Wants, Both Needs
I think that having technology could be both a want and a need. It depends on the situation at hand. If you are using technology for the entertainment value, then I would say it is a want. If you are using technology to save someone’s life, or use it for physical checkups, then I would say it is a need. Research shows that over 90% of American adults have cell phones. That doesn’t even include the teenagers and children. You don’t necessarily have to have technology but it makes your life so much easier. It is hard, but possible to go without a phone. I do however believe it is a need when you have an emergency and you need to get in contact with people for help. If you go into a hospital, you will see a monitor beside a patients beds so doctors/nurses can see how they are doing. I think with all the intelligent people in this world, we can find a way to make technology and limit the amount of carbon it produces.
