Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?
Wants or Needs? >
Do we really need the latest tech?
it is a want to have the latest technology because everyone wants to have the newer, more expensive, and more cooler technology so they can seem better or more cooler than their peers. In our society today cellphones and technology are a need because that's our main use of communication and to stay connected. Research shows that 90% of American adults have a cellphone or some sort of communication device. But that doesn't mean we need the newest or latest tech to still be able to communicate if the one you have now works perfectly then why get a new one.
If you don't have a phone or it is broken, then it's reasonable to buy the new model. But if your old device works just fine then their is no reason to get a new one.
Phones have become a sort of status level in recent times. The newest one that everyone is getting probably has the same basic functions as a previous version you may have. Unless it has a malfunction, including but not limited to it being broken, destroyed, sabotaged, or it being hindered in any way, I deem it unfit to get a new phone.
I agree, phones are things mainly students want to show off their latest tech. But, it also has become a major way of communication in this era, as you said. I would just suggest people should be happy with the phone they have now and not be obsessed with getting the latest model. It would be smarter to get a new phone when your current one no longer works.
I totally agree with you ashton_edstrom21. Phones are bad for the environment when they are being thrown away and made. If we used our old ones for longer there is less need for the newest phone model. Plus if we don't use our old phone as much it just gives us time to spend without devices while still having the ability to communicate.
Well as companies continue to make newer devices older ones start to seem less practical or they just stop working throughout wear and tear. Another point is that sometimes they just stop selling certain electronics.
