Is having the latest technology a want or a need?
How often do you get a new cel phone or mp3 player? Did you really need a new model? Do you consider the environmental impact of these purchases? If you are addicted, how can you break your addiction?

Cell Phones
Personally, I do not get the newest model of a phone. I do not see the need in getting the newest model when you really need a phone for one purpose; to keep in contact. I do in fact consider the e-waste when getting a new product. That is why I try to use my model of phone for as long as possible. If I were addicted to my phone, I would delete social media as a first step and only use it for the basic necessities, like for emergencies. What do you do with your old tech when you get new a one?
I agree with you, the one purpose we need a phone for is to keep in contact. An older phone is still capable of doing that task, just that newer technology is faster and probably has a couple of advantages. E-waste is a problem because it contains toxic substances that can leach out and harm our local environment and waterways. We should keep our phones for as long as we can so that our over production of e-waste can be reduced. Deleting what causes your addiction to phones is a smart way to make your phone last longer and subside your wanting for the latest cellphones. Personally, we keep our old technology so that in case our new technology needs repair or goes missing, we have our old technology to immediately to replace it.
