Technology: Do We Actually Need It?
Modern day society leads us to believe that technology is a constant need in our lives, however, this is not actually a reality. Yes, we use technology in school, but the second we get home we immediately pull out a device again. People are not educated on the extremely negative impact that technology has on our environment in terms of carbon footprint and if we all were to put the phone or laptop down for one second, we could all try to make a conscious effort to limit our personal and collective carbon footprint. According to theconversation.com, the relative contribution of electronic devices such as smartphones, computers, and tablets in terms of carbon emissions accounted for 1% of the total global footprint, 3.5% by 2020, and over 14% by 2040. Carbon emissions currently account for the spiking intensity of global warming currently and as human technology is manufactured to manipulate and addict your brain, will only continue to increase in terms of its impact on carbon emissions. As demand for new technology is fed by consumers, production and usage of devices wi ll increase carbon emissions, adding on to global warming, so if we make a conscious effort to put down the phone and reach out to others about what they can to to save our planet.
