Having the latest technology is definitely a want, a want that sometimes we take for granted, or is considered a need for some. In reality, having the latest technology is a desire. For example, there are smaller countries out in the world in which the citizens use very little technology, not exactly consisting of the latest iPhone. People can get around everyday having an older version of a cell phone or laptop (take the iPhone 5 or 6, not the newest model, but considered a generally durable and usable phone for sure). In the end, most people crave for the latest mass-produced technology that harms the economy when manufactured, when they can use older technology, such as an older or used version of a smartphone and save the environment little by little. Although the latest technology is a nice thing to have, it is not needed.

I agree. Cell phones are especially important to consider here, because they have a large carbon footprint. Your point about older iPhone versions is also correct. For example, the iPhone X is all glass and not durable at all, compared to older phones.

Although the newest and latest Apple products are great examples to represent this want over need concept, we have to remember that these are little things compared to the bigger picture. Most of the things inside of our homes, things around us, and even things on us are wants and luxury things. Stuff that we use in our everyday lives is not accessible to others around the world. Those people around the world learn how to live off of the limited resources that they have and tend not to waste and let things go to rot. Those are the same people we used to be before we emitted all this carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. If we just play our lives mostly off of needs and less off of wants, mother nature would be so much happier.
