Environmental Education

Many of the issues related to climate change have come from ignorance. According to this article, http://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-15874560, the term "global warming" was first used in 1975 and the idea that humans had an effect on the environment became apparent around the 1950s-1960s. Although scientists had evidence of global warming this early, the evidence was not largely acted upon until the late 1990s or early 2000s, especially by world governments. I believe that if people were more aware of global warming and its effect on our planet at an earlier time, they would've tried to prevent it more, but now many of the climate issues cannot be reversed. For these reasons, I joined a club at my school called 'Students for Sustainability' which works to educate our school community on the issues surrounding our environment and to better the way we treat the environment at our school. The club has done this by adding gardens, compost, and animals to our  school, by adding recycling and compost bins to our campus, and by holding events and rallies that bring awareness to environmental issues.

I agree with you that education is key. It is the first step to creating a more sustainable world. I believe climate change is something we can't ignore and children should be taught things that are going on globally instead of staying in a bubble and then being thrown into world issues at an older age. Children should be taught through experience and real life occurrences over theoretical situations. Also I think it is great that you are involved in a club that works to bring awareness and take action to make our school more green. If everyone were to take part even just in school hours to doing projects, it would have a huge effect.
