How are renewable/non renewable resources connected with sustainable development

morganv

The world has a limited supply of non renewable resources (for example oil), we cannot create it, and we cannot replace it. So once its used up, we're going have to move onto a new resource to power energy to earth, which make this unsustainable. But, if we use the sun's energy or wind energy, we can infer these cycles will continue, the sun will continue to shine and the wind will always be there etc. These are sustainable resources, so if we develop technologies that can use these forms of energy, eg. a solar powered car, then we are practicing a sustainable future.

I think that you have summed it up perfectly. Transportation is a leading contributor to the totals of many countries with the highest overall carbon footprints in the world. Our current forms of transportation use large amounts of energy to get us from place to place, especially over long distances. I always thought that if you could attach a small wind turbine to a moving car, you would be able to “recycle” the byproduct of some of that energy use. I know that others have suggested roads made of a durable material functioning like a solar panel in order to take advantage of all the space our society devotes to driving. I think that innovation in this aspect of our carbon footprint is essential in reducing our carbon emissions, but that safety concerns and government regulations often make this difficult or impossible. For example, an ultralight vehicle designed for efficiency may not be allowed on the roads - golf carts are not where I live. I believe that in the interest of the planet, some of this red tape could stand to be cut.

Renewable resources are connected with sustainable development because without renewable resources that we can always depend on we are not sustainable. At this point and time the world right now is not sustainable because we depend on fossil fuels to fuel our cars, electricity, buildings, and etc. What we can do to change that and make our world better is use renewable resources such as wind power, hydro power, solar power, and geothermal power. Morgan I agree with what you were saying about the world having to incorporate renewable resources into our everyday technology instead of using non renewable resources for our technology. If we do not start incorporating renewable resources into our technology soon our world will be in big trouble and may cease to exist and we need to preserve our earth not only for us, the animals, and plants, but our posterity, the animals posterity, and the plants posterity because they need a world to live in too.
