Taxing polluters
Taxing polluters for how much carbon emissions they have can help the environment so many ways. This discourages these polluters to emit carbon into the atmosphere in fear of losing money. In my state, an initiative is being proposed for midterms that is supposed to do this and add onto our existing state laws and counteract the laws the Trump administration is trying to enforce so polluters aren't taxed. However, this also hurts taxpayers and the middle class and wouldn't really help the cause it is claiming to help. Please tell me what you think of this. The initiative is 1631 if you want to look more into it.
That is not exactly how carbon fees work. They set a limit, if a polluter goes over the limit, they will get charged. Almost all the time, it is not the middle class. So it's not hurting them. This system is designed to target big companies and corporations, the ones with factories and emit tons of emissions every year. This will mainly affect them. If you want another system, here in California we have what is called a Cap and Trade Program. But in the end, any initiative to lower emissions on a large scale is good no matter what.
