Can developing countries develop while curbing emissions?
62% of greenhouse gas emissions come from developing countries. Personally, I think that a huge problem is that while emissions are actually starting to shrink in places like the US, France, and the UK, developing countries seem to be picking up more. China has long since surpassed the US as the world's largest polluter, and by a hefty margin of nearly 4 times what the US produces. 6 of the top 10 polluters are developing countries. I believe there's a reason for this. Developing countries, without investing in highly polluting industries, can't grow, as greener solutions to problems take much more capita. Furthermore, they lack the technology and education in the general population to grow. This is where the real work has to be done, in my opinion. We need to create economically viable ways to grow developing economies. As individuals, we can only do so much by changing the way we live, but a global, economically viable solution is the only way anyone can reduce emissions for the long term.
